4* self-catering holiday cottage in a pretty village in Hadrian's Wall Country. Sleeps 5 in 2 bedrooms and up to 2 dogs welcome.
Woodburner - Enclosed Courtyard Garden - WiFi - Smart TV with FreeSat and Blu-ray DVD - Very Well Equipped. Situated on ‘The Stanegate’, an old Roman road in the historic village of Fourstones on the edge of the Northumberland National Park, this traditional stone-built self-catering holiday cottage is centrally located in the UNESCO World Heritage Site Hadrian’s Wall Country. The Wall itself and several Roman forts and museums are within easy reach, including Vindolanda, Roman Army Museum, Housesteads, Birdoswald, Corbridge and Chesters.
The cottage is also very well placed for exploring the surrounding area including Kielder Water & Forest, the North East coast, Northumberland National Park and Beamish Museum. Tynemouth and the coast are about 45 minutes away, and the cities of Newcastle upon Tyne, Durham and Carlisle are easily accessible by car, bus or train. The Hadrian’s Cycleway passes the front door and the attractive market town of Hexham is four miles away with a wide range of shops and amenities, an impressive Abbey, railway station, golf course, race course and the Old Gaol, England’s first purpose-built prison, now a museum.
There are lovely views of the Tyne Valley from the cottage and some good walks around the village, surrounding countryside and along the river, which is also popular for fishing. There is a village shop very close to the cottage and a good dog-friendly pub that serves food under a mile’s walk away, with several others within a short drive.
